Your brain and body know how to heal!
Are you longing for something more?
EMDR therapy can help!
- You feel stuck in the healing process
- Memories of the past plague you
- Shame feels like a heavy blanket that won’t let you breathe
- You feel on high alert most of the time
- Fears or phobias hold you captive
- Unhealthy thoughts or behaviors are unrelenting
Regardless of how hard you try or how much therapy you have been in, there are places in life where you feel stuck. You…
- Struggle getting close to people
- Have difficulty trusting
- Find yourself highly reactive to certain situations
- Feel like you have to function in life, to manage responsibility, yet it is a consistent struggle
- Are plagued by feelings of worthlessness and self-doubt
- You are highly self-critical
Maybe you are intellectual, you understand your story, can make sense of the reasons you do the things you do, yet you still experience unsettling body sensations, have unwanted behaviors that are not shifting, or have memories that plague your mind.
EMDR which stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (it sounds scarier than it is) is different from talk therapy in that it can bypass your thinking brain (that sometimes can get you stuck) and access the deeper parts of your brain that hold the impact of the core wounds you have experienced.
There is hope – you can heal!
By engaging in EMDR therapy, you can take your life back! You can experience freedom from the past and live authentically in the present and future. You can wake up in the morning and feel capable of facing the day. You will have space to notice the beauty around you, experience deep and meaningful connections with others, and know at your core who you are created to be. You can live in alignment with your values, have increased acceptance of yourself, feel as if a weight has been lifted, and reach toward your goals.
What is EMDR therapy?
EMDR is a form of therapy that involves 8 phases. As you connect with your therapist and build a relationship, your therapist will gather information about your history, the moments that have shaped who you are today.
Together with your therapist, you will identify the painful moments or “stuck points” of your story, The situations that cause distress in your mind and body, that underlie your current symptoms and struggles will be clear.
When you endure difficult times, most often there is a core belief that is formed that lies underneath many of the current struggles. This may be something similar to “I am in danger…I am unlovable…I am not capable of handling this…It’s my fault…I am responsible.” EMDR helps identify these negative beliefs and shift them into something that is based in truth, not in trauma.
Together, with a plan that is unique to you and your needs, your therapist will fortify you with resources (both internal and external), assist you in developing and implementing healthy coping skills, help you understand your nervous system, and prepare you to process the core wounds, or traumas.
Through the use of bilateral (back and forth) movement, which typically are eye movements, tapping, or through the use of hand held buzzers, the painful memories that are “stuck,” cause distress, or that are held in your body can be reprocessed. They will no loner cause significant distress. Rather than the memory being like an open wound, it will be a scar. It will just be a memory! You know it is part of your story, EMDR does not erase the memory, but it will not hold power over you or impede upon your life today.

Q: Is EMDR a form of hypnosis?
A: No, it is different from hypnosis. In EMDR therapy you are fully conscious and aware at all times. You are actually in the driver’s seat and can start or stop the process at any point.
Q: How long does EMDR therapy take?
A: An EMDR session can last anywhere from 60 minutes to 2 hours depending on what you and your therapist decide works best for you. The process of EMDR therapy is individual to each person depending on your history, previous therapy experience, current symptoms and experiences, and life circumstances along the way. EMDR therapy does work more quickly than traditional talk therapy to resolve or heal memories, yet it does still involve a process.
Q: Who can benefit from EMDR therapy?
A: Anyone can benefit from EMDR therapy! People who experience post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, eating disorders, grief, phobias, performance anxiety, stress, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), or even a stuck core belief! EMDR can be used for a wide variety of therapeutic concerns.
